ARNICA Leopard's bane (Arnica Montana ) Arnica is commonly called "leopard's bane"... The arnica plant has a bright yellow, daisy-like flower that blooms around July in the northern hemisphere. The plant is used externally for arthritis, burns, ulcerations, eczema and acne. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory qualities that can reduce pain and swelling, improving wound healing. Arnica works by stimulating the activity of white blood cells that perform much of the digestion of congested blood, and by dispersing trapped, disorganized fluids from bumped and bruised tissue, joints and muscles. By all means Arnica is an anti-inflammatory medicinal plant. These qualities are reducing the pain and the swelling. It can be used for long term joint and muscle complaints, lumbago and sciatica. Rubbed on the skin will soothe and heal the bruises, the sprains, and relieves discomfort caused by trauma, arthritis and muscle or cartilage pain. At the skin level Arnica works on ecchymosis, bed sores, itching, burning, ulcers, acne or eruption of small pimples, boils. Applied as a salve, on its own, Arnica is also good for chapped lips and irritated nostrils. The active components which earn Arnica's reputation are sesquiterpene lactones, which are known to reduce inflammation and decrease pain. Other active principals are thymol (an essential oil), flavonoids, inulin, carotenoids and tannins. Arnica associates well in combination with Witch Hazel and Calendula. The Extracts of the blossoms are known to be the best. ATTENTION! As an herb Arnica
is intended for external use only. Taken internally it can cause vomiting, weakness,
increased heart rate and nervous disturbances. Orally, Arnica can be taken only
as homoeopathic remedy prescribed by qualified homoeopath. home | skinfix | history | trials | testimonials | contact us www.skinfix.com.au | info@skinfix.com.au
